Dating 101 - Failure to launch

16 outubro, 2014

This is how your early 20s look like: good first dates every now and again, pizza every week, debt every month and the illusion of going towards something all the time.

It has been a week exactly like that, an awesome first date - equal parts flirty and chatty, an all together lovely encounter. Dazed by the hope, by the dream - and let's face it - the sex appeal of it all, I forgot how the real world works and how things are never quite as they seem.

Mistake number 1:  A text to say ' great being with you tonight, hope we can be together soon' - 20 minutes after mentioned first date.

Mistake number 2: Let yourself get excited. - Telling your friends about it makes it worse, its no longer your own expectation but theirs as well.

You had the first date, you feel empowered, sexy, crazy, hopeful. You imagine the evolution of it all, meeting each others friends, lovely getaway weekends and then you get the text:

"Should meet soon, but maybe just as friends. Is that okay?"
Mistake number 3: You let it drown you.

Mistake number 4: You have a disgraceful comeback to the question, "Sure, most definitely :)"

In the meantime, you have the chance to save yourself. He texted back, he made a joke, you acted serious and sarcastic. He sent the last text. You should step away, forget about it, mourn and watch How to get away with murder.

Mistake number 5: You text back: "I am feeling crap, sick and with a headache"

He then ignores that, and tells you to schedule something for after his trip thing. Today is Thursday, the trip starts on Sunday. He will be back a week after that. He doesn't want to text till then (never, really). You just made it so much worse.

No dignity whatsoever - In your 20s life is pretty much a mess.
